1967 BMW 1600-2 - SOLD

This Tampico 1967 BMW 1600-2 is said to have been modified for track use around 25 years ago. The car is powered by a modified inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and it has Ireland Engineering suspension components, 13″ Panasport-style wheels, a roll bar, and a trunk-mounted fuel cell and battery. Last registered for road use in 2014, it was previously listed on BaT in December 2022, and its interior has since been equipped with Recaro front seats.

Finished at the factory in Tampico, the car was repainted under previous ownership, and it has a fiberglass hood and trunk lid. Other details include hood pins, removed windshield wipers, and a bright fuel cap. A factory steel hood is included in the sale.

This is a relist after the vehicle was previously sold on BaT in July 2025 and the winning bidder failed to follow through with their commitment to purchase. This was not due to any fault with the vehicle.

Ireland Engineering hollow stabilizer bars, adjustable front coilovers, Bilstein rear dampers, and polyurethane bushings are noted, and E21 front brake calipers are fitted over ventilated rotors. The 13″ Panasport-style wheels are mounted with 185/60 Toyo Proxes RA1 tires that are due for replacement. The seller states an additional set of wheels is included in the sale.

The interior features Recaro front seats with plaid inserts, and gray carpets line the floors. A roll bar and a five-panel rearview mirror are additional elements. Openings have been cut in the door panels, which have straps in place of regulators for the plexiglass windows.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a column-mounted tachometer and shift light, and the instrument cluster has gauges for water temperature and oil pressure. The car does not have an odometer, and true mileage is unknown.

The inline-four is said to be a replacement that displaces 1.6 liters, and it has dual Weber carburetors with velocity stacks as well as a 118-stamped head, a red valve cover, an aluminum radiator, and an auxiliary oil cooler.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and an E21-spec differential. Rust perforation is noted on the exhaust system, which has a Magnaflow muffler.
