1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal - SOLD

Beginning in the late 1960s and through the mid-1970s, Alfa Romeo experienced a renaissance in road racing, with their pinnacle achievement being the Tipo 33 Stradale. Departing from the small-displacement, four-cylinder engines that defined the company's post-war legacy, the Tipo 33 showcased a sophisticated 2.0-liter V8 power plant. In an effort to make the race-bred V8 available in a road car, Alfa Romeo ingeniously merged a variant of the Tipo 33 engine with the balanced Giulia Sprint GT chassis in 1970. Clothing the sophisticated package was a striking 2+2 coupe body penned by Bertone’s own Marcello Gandini – designer of the fabled Lamborghini Miura – which initially appeared as a concept at the 1967 Universal Exposition in Montreal. Christened the Montreal in homage to its debut location, the sleek coupe boasted distinctive features, including a centrally placed NACA duct on the hood, louvered half headlight covers, and a vented C-pillar. With fewer than 4,000 units produced and none officially imported to the U.S., this exclusive Alfa GT presents a very rare opportunity to acquire one of Gandini’s most exciting designs in an excellent color, no less.
