The AZ-1 was built by Mazda and distributed via its Japanese-market Autozam dealership channel between 1992 and 1994, and it features plastic composite body panels with gullwing doors. This example is finished in Classic Red (SU), and exterior equipment includes a full glass canopy, straked radiator inlets, Mazdaspeed-branded exhaust tips, and a Mazdaspeed body kit including an englarged hood scoop, a front air dam, and a tall rear wing.
Aftermarket 13″ alloy wheels are wrapped in 155/65 Dunlop Enasave EC202 tires. The car utilizes an independent suspension with a Mazdaspeed-specific coil and damper setup, per the seller. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes at each corner.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts white-dial instrumentation comprising a 140-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 9k-rpm redline, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The six-digit odometer shows 3,600 kilometers (~2,200 miles), approximately 150 of which were added under current ownership.
The mid-mounted turbocharged 657cc Suzuki F6A inline-three produced 64 horsepower and 63 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller notes that the car is equipped with a Mazdaspeed air filter as well as a Mazdaspeed exhaust system.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential.
The fixed-back bucket seats are upholstered in black and red cloth. Appointments include air conditioning, crank windows, and a Kenwood CD stereo.
