1951 Mercury Eight Convertible - SOLD
This 1951 Mercury Eight two-door convertible was the subject of refurbishment work in 2017 and was acquired by the current owner the following year. Finished in ivory over blue and white leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 255ci L-head V8 linked to a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. It rides on 15″ steel wheels with covers and has independent front suspension, a split windshield, dual spotlights, and a blue top boot in addition to power windows, Clear-Vision flow-through ventilation, a dashboard-mounted clock, and a factory-style radio linked to aftermarket audio components. The convertible bodywork is finished in ivory. The replacement blue soft top does not work, and a blue top boot is fitted. Additional details include a split windshield, a chrome slotted grille, dual side mirrors, and dual spotlights.
Steel 15″ wheels wear covers and are mounted with Coker Classic whitewall tires. The car is equipped with an independent front suspension, and stopping is accomplished via hydraulically actuated four-wheel drum brakes.
Two rows of bench seating are upholstered in blue leather with white upper seat backs, and the color combination extends to the dashboard and door panels. Appointments include power windows, sun visors, Clear-Vision flow-through ventilation, and a dashboard-mounted clock. A factory-style radio is linked to aftermarket audio components.
The two-spoke steering wheel has a chrome horn ring and fronts a 110-speedometer flanked by auxiliary readouts. The five-digit odometer shows 92k miles.
The 255ci L-head V8 is equipped with a single carburetor with an open-element air filter and was factory rated at 112 horsepower and 206 lb-ft of torque.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
